I got some gift cards from my credit card points and I wasn’t quite sure what to use it on. I’d had my eye on getting a new iPod for some time now. The one that I had was third or fourth generation iPod classic. But I’d been putting it off because I really wasn’t sure. It wasn’t until tlAmazon came out with the Kindle app that I finally decided to take the plunge and got the iPod touch. I have to say that I’m pretty happy with the purchase.
I’ve installed a couple of apps, most of them good, some of them bad. Unfortunately not all of them were free.
The apps that I like so far are the kindle app, of course and the wordpress app that you can get at iPhone.wordpress.com. It’s what I’m using now to write this entry. Unfortunately, I couldn’t cut and paste to get that link for you, but any iPhone/iPod touch user can tell you that. That functionality is supposed to be coming soon though, but I hear that a lot. Soon could mean at the end of the year or never.
But this was never meant really to be a serious input device, as much as I want it to be. I’ll still need the Nokia n810 for anything like word processing. But there are a lot of things that the iPod touch does better than the Nokia. The web pages load faster, some apps are much better and the availability of games and random fun stuff are easier to find. That’s one of the things about the Nolia that bothered me. There was no one developing for it and the people who were did it for the love. And as we all know, FTL projects always gets put on the backburner.
So in conclusion, I really like the iPod touch. And this purchase also fulfills my nerdy gadget buy for the year. Chris says I can’t go more than a year without buying something. Buy hey, this one was mostly bought with points, so it doesn’t count right?
