I’ve never been one for eating candies. I’d much rather have something salty and fatty, but while wandering the aisles at Whole Foods, I came across this hard candy. Truth be told, I’d given up my Thai iced teas during my pregnancy due to the high caffeine content. I’ve been sticking to green teas, which has much less. And honestly, I think I was mostly missing that sugary sweetness from the thai iced teas.
I took a look at the ingredients and liked what I saw. We’ve eliminated high fructose corn syrup from our diet, which means that most candies are not on my eat list. What I like about this is that it’s made with plain old sugar.
I like that the color isn’t from bug shells (not that there’s anything wrong with eating bugs), but from natural fruits and vegetables. It’s not too sweet and I like the pomegranate and nectarine flavor, though I’m not particularly sure that there is any pomegranate or nectarine in it. It doesn’t say specifically on the packaging.
What I like to do is pop one in my mouth while I’m drinking my cup of hot unsweetened tea. I only drink tea maybe twice a week, so this tin lasts me several weeks. There’s about fifteen pieces in each tin.
I’ve also tried the blood orange and honey flavor. Though it’s perfectly pleasant, it’s not something I will repurchase.
I like this so much, I bought a second tin even though I haven’t finished the first one yet. They do have two other flavors that I’d like to try, but I haven’t seen them in the store yet. We may have to order them online. I’ve seen them once in a Barnes and Nobles and it was just one tin. I haven’t seen them there since. They don’t carry this in all the Whole Foods stores. The one in Winter Park is seriously lacking in a great plethora of ways, so it’s not sold there. But it is sold in the Sand Lake store.
Have you tried these? And how do you like them? Let me know if you’ve tried the other flavors!
